Port Vila, 5th May 2026 — This marked a historic milestone for our nation as the Government of Vanuatu, together with the Vanuatu National Provident Fund (VNPF) and Medican Service Company Ltd of New Zealand, officially launched Healthcare Vanuatu Limited.
Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance, Hon. Johnny Koanapo, opened the event, highlighting how this initiative represents more than just a new clinic, it is the beginning of a new era in national development.
For too long, families in Vanuatu have faced the hardship of traveling overseas for specialized medical care. With Healthcare Vanuatu Limited, that reality begins to change. Phase One introduces improved diagnostics, specialist consultations, and coordinated referral pathways. Future phases will expand to include cancer chemotherapy, intensive care units, advanced cardiology services, and eventually a multi-specialty hospital in Port Vila.
This partnership reflects responsible investment and strong governance by VNPF, aligning with the National Sustainable Development Plan 2016–2030. It also demonstrates how savings can be invested in projects that deliver both financial returns and lasting social value.
Hon. Koanapo commended the leadership of VNPF and acknowledged Mr. Deepak Singh and his team from Medican for their expertise in managing the clinic. Together, they bring international standards and operational excellence to Vanuatu’s health sector.
“May Healthcare Vanuatu Limited stand as a symbol of progress, partnership, and commitment to improving access to quality healthcare for all people of Vanuatu.”
This is more than a launch, it is hope, resilience, and a promise of better health for generations to come.
